VCTM Board Meeting

Members Present: Nancy Pejouhy, President; Jean McKenny, Past President; Harvie Porter, Membership Chair; Roberta Cota, Zone 1 Representative and Secretary; Kathy Nolan, Zone 2 Representative; Laura Reed, Zone 7 Repre-sentative; Maureen Neumann, NCTM Representative; Bob Sinclair, ATMNE Representative; Mary-Anne Johnson, Zone 6 Representative; Stacey Anthony, Zone 3 Representative; Carole Fortier, Middle –School Representative; Charles Thompson, Zone 4 Representative; Jill Wilkins, High School Representative and Robert Kenney, Newsletter Editor.
The meeting was called to order at 5:20 p.m.
Secretary’s Report: Moved by Bob Sinclair and seconded by Kathy Nolan to accept the Secretary’s Report of January 11, 2006, with the following changes:
It was noted that the Math Coalition was changed from May 10, 2006, to May 2, 2006, at UVM.
Treasurer’s Report: No Report as Bob Chaffee is in Florida.
Standing Committees:
Membership: Harvie Porter reported that we now have 117 members. He reported that NCTM would not give us permission to use their logo. He is still looking into this and the reasoning behind this decision.
Kathy Nolan will be the VCTM delegate at NCTM in St. Louis. The board has agreed to pay her room for the evening.
Higher Education Report: Nancy Pejouhy reported for Tim Whiteford stating that he put together a ‘virtual’ group of math educators and special educatorss interested in developing and improving math education for a variety of students. He has also developed a web-page: http://academics.smcvt.edu/twhiteford/Differentiating%20Math%20Instruction/DFI.htm.
As a pool for resources. A group has met and is trying to locate funding to organize events for the group. If anyone would like to be on the list-serve they should e-mail him.
Kathy Nolan stated that there is a group in the Northeast Kingdom who are trying to form a consortium (K-4) trying to pull resources together for special needs students to share strategies with teacher and special educators to help with early numeration.
ATMNE REPORT: Bob Sinclair reported that the Spring Confs. meeting will be on April 7 and 8th. He also reported that he would not continue as ATMNE representative after his term expires.
Jill Wilson reported on the ATMNE New England Conference which will take place in Killington, Vermont, on Thurs and Friday October 19-20, 2006. The next meeting is June 10, 2006, 10 a.m. at the Killington Grand Hotel.
NCTM REPORT: There is a Leadership Conference in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in August if anyone would like to attend and is interested, you need to e-mail Nancy Pejouhy or Jean McKenny.
Moved by Jean McKenney and seconded by Bob Sinclair to appoint Kathy Nolan as the VCTM Delegate and pay one night’s hotel at the NCTM conference in St. Louis, Missouri. Motion was approved unanimously.
NEWSLETTER: Bob Kenney reported that the VCTM Newsletter has been mailed out. It was decided that the next newsletter will be sent out in September.
PAEMST REPORT: Nancy Pejouhy stated that the National Presidential Awardee will not be announced until the week of May 1-6. The nominees were: Donna Cook, Diane Levette and Debbie Pelkey.
ATMNE CONFERENCE 2006: Jill Wilson reported on the ATMNE New England Conference which will take place in Killington, Vermont, on Thurs and Friday October 19-20, 2006. The next meeting is June 10, 2006, 10 a.m. at the Killington Grand Hotel.
Vermont Institutes Report: No Report.
New Business:
Charlie Thompson reported that he purchased our web for two more years. Moved by Bob Sinclair and seconded by Kathy Nolan to give Charlie Thompson a check for $132.76 for a domain name and first year posting and access program. Motion was approved by unanimous vote.
We are now looking for a Zone 1 Representative.
The awards dinner for the state awardees and their parents will be held in the Waterman Bldg. at UVM on May 2, 2006, at 5:00 p.m.
Stacy Anthony reported that we have 30+ people registered for the VCTM conference on April 6 at the Vermont College.
Other Business: Jean McKenny distributed a Vermont Institutes brochure on Mathematics Professional Development.
Jean McKenny will put it out on the Mathnet to attend the deadline line for VCTM confs. until Wednesday.
The next meeting of the VCTM Board is September 7, 2006, at Vermont Institutes in Montpelier, Vermont.
Moved by Bob Sinclair and seconded by Mary-Anne Johnson to adjourn the meeting at 6:50 p.m. Motion was approved by unanimous vote.
