STANDING COMITTEES
Membership: Harvie stated that we have approximately 140 members. Jean McKenny stated that we should contact Patricia Bouthillette at Missisquoi School to see why memberships are not forthcoming form their school.
Stacey Anthony stated that St. of Vermont Department of Education website has school addresses. Jean stated that we needed to send reminders through Zone Representatives to schools about the spring and fall conferences. Suggestions were made to make a poster or send the flier from the newsletter along with the registration for both conferences.
ATMNE Report: Harvie again reported on the upcoming ATMNE conference on the 8th & 9th of November. There is an on-line registration form.
Newsletter: Reminder to get Newsletter information to Bob Kenney asap.
PAEMST Report: Nancy Pejouhy reported that the next cycle for Presidential Awards is for the Elementary level. On-line nominations can be made at http://www@ paemst.org. The 2007 nominees are Lisa Therrien from Harwood Union Middle School and Nancy Kent from Hartford High School.
Math Coalition: Barbara Unger and husband are helping with the recruiting team for math coalition talent search to help Ted Marsden and Tony .
New Business: Fall 2007 Fall Conference: Mary Calder reported that the progress was slow. Andrew Pezzulo is working on high school speakers and/or representatives for programs. Mary is working on the elementary/middle school representatives. Harvie stated that he needed to know the amount of rooms needed for the presentations. Harvie stated that the cafeteria would be available and that the meal could be done for about $10 per person. Every room has overhead projectors. If computer projectors are needed, then those need to be supplied. Mary stated that he had asked both Clair Early and Judy Laird to be keynote speakers, but they were not available to do this. Mary thought that maybe we could ask Tim Whiteford as this is his specialty area, and Harvie suggested Dave Barnette, the assistant principal at Randolph. He will check to see if he is willing to do this and get back to Mary. It was decided that the Fall Conference would be called. “Math Programs that support All Learners” to be held on Friday, October 19th. The VCTM annual meeting will be held during lunch in the cafeteria.
Harvie asked if we wanted a booth at the Vermont NEA Conference. Nancy stated that she would reserve a booth space for VCTM. Harvie Porter and Stacey Anthony will man the booth on at the beginning and the end of the conference, and Mary Calder and another volunteer will cover the other times. Harvie will contact Charlie Thompsom for the PVC pipe to hold the banner. Harvie stated that he thought the banner was at his house.
Dates were discussed for the Spring Conference. Pat Jaquith was suggested as a possible speaker. Everyone thought that she was a great speaker last year and would like to have her again. Nancy will contact Pat to see if she would be willing to speak again. Nancy will also be in touch with Tim Whiteford asking to use St. Michael’s College as a site of the spring conference.
Old Business: Vermont will not be hosting the training from Tony Trono and TI-Nspire. A Massachusetts site was chosen.
The next board meeting will be in January 16th, 2008, at Randolph High School at 4:00 p.m.
Moved by Harvie Porter and seconded by Anthony Pezzulo to adjourn the meeting at 7:20 p.m. Motion was approved unanimously.
Respectfully submitted,
Roberta A. Cota, Secretary
